Pier 1, The Fort, Taguig – “If you make the call, they will come.” was the theme for this edition of what has come to be known as Bong J’s “Mount the Troops” gatherings because it materialized within days of his email invite.

Held at our usual table – on the third level near the ladies’ comfort room (we’ve developed the ability to repeat this verbatim effortlessly in English or Pilipino), the event was surprisingly well-attended given the short notice.
The usual suspects – Tonichi, Allan, Bong, Butch, Luke, Johnny, and I – were present. But this time, George, Jed, Jigs, and Manny (on a visit from LA), showed up too. To be sure, there was one who begged-off at the last minute, and “the envious one” abroad, who instantly became our main topics of discussion.
Jed related how his recent surgery effectively left him with a semi-colon. A medico-linguistic double entendre not lost to our esteemed guest in the field of “Communications”.
The night wore on amid discussions about “learning curves” and updates from the guys who were absent on previous assemblies and finally broke up shortly after midnight. But not before Johnny successfully passed the hat for our less fortunate classmates and faculty members and raised PHP 4,000.00. Not bad!
Until the next one….
